Buying guide for Best Acer monitors

Deep down, we computer users know that the parts of the computer we can’t see, like the processors, are vital to our enjoyment of the machine. But once you’ve got enough processing power “under the hood” of your machine, it’s the visuals that grab your attention. That’s where a good computer monitor comes in.

Computer monitors have come a long way in the past decade-plus. Modern monitors have a large viewing area with a sharp display resolution, making them essential tools for seeing your work documents clearly. They’re also great after work for watching movies or playing games.

One of the top manufacturers of computer monitors is Acer. This company is one of the biggest computer makers, as well. An Acer monitor will work with any computer model from any manufacturer; you can also pair an Acer monitor with an Acer desktop computer. But with so many models and features to choose from, finding the right acer model for your needs can be challenging. Our buying guide cuts through the jungle of specs and options to help you select the best Acer monitor for your computer setup.

If you want a high-end monitor from Acer, look for a gaming monitor, even if you are not a gamer. Gaming monitors include quite a few advanced display features.

Key considerations

When selecting Acer monitors, you can pick among models that have a variety of features. Here are some of the important technologies and brand-specific features in Acer computer monitors.

BlueLightShield: Acer’s BlueLightShield technology reduces the amount of blue light the monitor emits. Excessive blue light is thought to contribute to eye fatigue and eye strain.

Curvature: A curved Acer monitor is common for those interested in gaming. The curvature of the monitor gives the user a feeling of being surrounded by the screen, enhancing the gaming experience.

Touch: Touchscreen Acer monitors are not common, but they can simplify desktop computer use for those who commonly use tablets or smartphones.

Ultra slim: Extremely thin and lightweight Acer monitors are known as “ultra slim” models.

VisionCare: Acer VisionCare technology aims to reduce flicker and eye strain, allowing you to use the monitor for long periods of time comfortably.

Wide Viewing Angle: If you select an Acer monitor with Wide Viewing Angle technology, people sitting at the edges of the monitor will be able to see the image clearly, which isn’t the case with the vast majority of monitors.

Zero Frame: Acers Zero Frame monitors have no visible borders, giving you an edge-to-edge screen.

Beyond the basic Acer computer monitor models, Acer offers a couple of high-end niche sub-brands specifically designed for entertainment and gaming users.

Nitro: The Nitro brand features fast refresh rates, which is perfect for gaming because it reduces blurring and distortion. Nitro models also render deep blacks and are ready for HDR technology, which delivers vibrant color. Nitro monitors provide image quality similar to what you’d find with a television.

Predator: The Predator brand delivers excellent performance for gamers. These monitors have a fast refresh rate and display resolutions up to 4K. They also have a high-speed response, which is key in gaming.

Features

Here are some of the important features you’ll find when comparing different Acer computer monitor models.

Resolution

Resolution refers to the maximum number of pixels a screen can display. A full HD resolution is 1920 x 1080, and a 4K resolution is 3840 x 2160. Acer offers multiple monitor models at HD, 4K, and other resolutions between.

Aspect ratio

Typically, an Acer monitor will have a 16:9 aspect ratio (meaning it’s almost twice as wide as it is tall). Acer also offers widescreen monitors that have an aspect ratio of 21:9. Widescreen monitors simplify viewing multiple open windows at one time.

Ports

Your Acer monitor will connect to the computer through a port. HDMI is a standard digital video connection port used frequently with televisions, but it also appears in computers. DisplayPort is a competitor to HDMI that’s made more for computer work than TVs. An older computer may require a VGA port.

Size

Serious gamers will want Acer monitors of at least 30 inches in size, although the majority of games look good on a 24-inch monitor. Those performing general computer tasks often use monitors smaller than 24 inches. To measure an Acer monitor, calculate the distance from one corner to the opposite corner diagonally.

Some Acer monitors offer an extremely thin bezel, which is the edge around the screen.

Acer monitor prices

Acer monitors give customers a reasonable value, as you can get HD resolution in large monitors for less than $100. However, if you want high-end features, you will end up paying quite a bit more.

Inexpensive Acer monitors cost $50 to $100. These monitors will be smaller than 24 inches with full HD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratios.

Mid-range Acer monitors cost $100 to $200. Some of these monitors may approach 30 inches in size. Greater-than-HD resolution is not guaranteed in this price range.

Expensive Acer monitors cost $200 to $500 or more. These monitors may be larger than 30 inches. Some will have a widescreen aspect ratio of greater than 16:9. Some may even have touchscreen capabilities. Resolutions up to 4K are common in this price range.

Tips

  • Turn off the monitor before cleaning. The black background of a powered down Acer monitor screen allows you to easily see all of the spots and dust on the screen.
  • Clean with distilled water. Avoid using harsh chemicals on your Acer monitor screen. These chemicals could erode coatings Acer uses on the screen during the manufacturing process. Instead, stick with a little bit of distilled water. Always apply the water to the cleaning cloth, rather than directly on the screen.
  • A microfiber cloth works best. Apply a few drops of water onto a microfiber cloth to wipe down the screen. If you have stubborn fingerprints on the screen, use a bit more water. A microfiber cloth is soft enough to avoid scratches on the screen, unlike some paper towels or old T-shirts.
  • Let the screen air dry. By only using a little bit of water on the cloth, the screen should be able to air-dry within a few minutes. If it doesn’t air-dry quickly, you’re using too much water.
  • Keep air vents dust free and clear. Acer monitors will have air vents that allow airflow to cool the components inside the monitor. Dust these vents occasionally, and don’t block them with taped notes or items stacked near the monitor.

You can run your Acer monitor at its maximum resolution, or you can choose to run it at a lower resolution.

FAQ

Q. Should I look for an Acer monitor with HDMI, DisplayPort, or both?

A. For starters, check the port that your computer’s graphic card has. The majority of them will use DisplayPort, but HDMI may be an available option. If your graphic card has both, it’s helpful to have an Acer monitor that has both types of ports.

Q. Can I use the Acer monitor as a TV?

A. Yes. However, some Acer computer monitors do not have audio speakers built into them. This means you’d have to purchase a soundbar or separate speakers.

Q. Can I save space on my desk with a wall-mounted Acer computer display?

A. Yes. Some Acer monitors will work for wall mounting. Should you prefer to have the monitor on your desk, all Acer monitors ship with a base unit to hold the screen.

Q. How long should my Acer monitor last?

A. As long as it doesn’t fall to the ground, an Acer monitor can last anywhere from three to 10 years. The average lifespan of an Acer monitor is five or six years. Users often decide to replace their monitors with a larger size or a model with better resolution well before it breaks.
