Pie is a treat that doesn't go overboard, and comes in enough recipes to satisfy any sweet tooth. But if you want to match grandma's perfect pie, you need the right pan. A pie pan is a circular baking dish with slanted sides. A decent pie pan can serve as a baking dish for many purposes, including pizza and casseroles, and should be able to go from oven to table. The size which accommodates most recipies is a 9 inch pan, but you can find pans that are smaller, at about 7 or even mini 3 inches for single serving pies. Larger size pie pans may be as much as 12" in diameter. If you are looking for practical perfection, try a metal pan or a simple tempered glass. Clear pie pans will allow you to see when your crust is a perfect brown. Other ceramic pie pans can offer more of a decorative flair. They will cost a bit more, but are a nice option if you are making a pie to share with others.
