Gas cans are containers rated to hold small amounts of gasoline. This is the kind of container you will need to keep gas on hand for yard and landscaping equipment, or generators. Typically they are red plastic or metal containers. This is a safety issue to denote that the liquid inside the container is gasoline. The red color distinguishes them from yellow containers for diesel and blue for kerosene or fuel oil. Modern containers often come with no-spill nozzles which are required by law in some states. A practical size for all your lawn equipment is a five-gallon container. If your equipment needs an oil mix, it is helpful to get an additional one-gallon container for mixing your gas with oil as needed. In order to keep the gas can from getting too heavy to carry, you may want a 2 1/2-gallon model or smaller.
