T-ball is a great way to introduce young players aged four to six to the sport of baseball, and because its players are so small, T-ball equipment is specialized for this age group. A T-ball bat is a key piece of equipment designed to make hitting easier, with a shorter length, lighter weight, slimmer grip and wider barrel than bats designed for youth baseball. A child’s height and weight determine the size T-ball bat they should use: A child who weighs less than 40 pounds and stands 43 inches tall, for example, would do well with a 25-inch length. Sizing charts are available from most T-ball bat manufacturers and are often on the bat’s packaging. T-ball bats are softer than baseball bats and should only be used with approved balls hit off of a tee; hitting pitched balls will dent these bats.
