A shower gel is a soap replacement. It’s generally kinder to sensitive skin and is particularly good for oily or normal skin. (Those with dry skin may fare better with body wash, which usually includes more moisturizing ingredients.) A shower gel may or may not lather up. Some contain moisturizing agents while others don’t. Many shower gels are made of synthetic ingredients, but plant extracts and essential oils aren’t uncommon. A gel tends to smell more strongly than other types of soaps, including body washes, so the scent should be pleasant so that it’s comfortable to use daily. It should also wash off cleanly without leaving a residue. Even if the gel doesn’t specifically contain moisturizer, it should leave your skin feeling smooth and hydrated.
