Baseball infield gloves play a key role in your success as a defensive player. When you’re playing an infield position, you need the right size and style of glove. Middle infielder gloves will be a little smaller than other types of baseball gloves. Shortstops and second basemen need to be able to grab the ball out of the glove quickly. A smaller glove makes it easier to transfer the ball from the glove to the hand. A first baseman uses a glove style that funnels the ball toward the palm and pocket. This makes it easier to catch errant throws from other infielders. The third baseman can use a larger glove than middle infielders, especially in the pocket area. Because a third baseman stands closer to home plate, a larger glove helps with successful quick reactions.
