A skate should feel like part of your foot, while offering stability, support, and comfort. The type will depend on age, skill level, and position. Lighter, faster skates will suit those playing a forward position, while the sturdier skates suit defense positions. A tapered, narrow fit makes you able to turn on a dime and accelerate faster. A contoured, anatomical fit is snug and will achieve a powerful stride. A classic fit is better for all around play and will help you glide. Be aware that it’s normal for skates to be rigid, since they have to support you, and as such they need a while to break in. Look for established brands like American Athletic, Bauer, Reebok and Easton.
