Which mini soccer net is the most portable?

We’re well into sports season at the start of fall, which means you know what equipment you are lacking or need to replace. If your game is coaching kids' soccer, you need all the mini nets you can get. However, you can’t just leave them on the field or in the park — you’ve got to haul them all over town. As such, you want the easiest mini soccer nets to move. Don’t forget to consider other aspects such as the size, shape and how many nets are included.

In this article: Bazookagoal Original Pop-Up Mini Soccer Goal, Jogenmax Portable Mini Soccer Goal Set and Franklin Sports Indoor Mini Goal Sports Set.

Shape

The majority of mini soccer nets are rectangular, as is standard, but some are exact squares. Others are half circles or slightly elliptical. It doesn’t usually matter what shape it is unless your league has rules regarding it.

Size

The size of the mini soccer net you need depends on the age of the kids who are going to be using it and what you’re using it for. Nets for scrimmage or actual games should be an appropriate size for the children’s ages and follow any mandates of your league. Nets for practice can be any size depending on the drills you’re running, but they should be no larger than scrimmage and game nets.

  • Kids ages 3 and younger typically use nets that are 3 by 5 feet or 4 by 6 feet.
  • Kids ages 4 and 5 typically use nets that are 4 by 6 feet to 5 by 10 feet.
  • Kids ages 6 and 7 typically use nets that are 5 by 10 feet to 6 by 12 feet.
  • Kids ages 8 to 11 typically use nets that are 6 by 18 feet to 7 by 21 feet.
  • Kids ages 12 and older typically use adult regulation nets, which are 8 by 24 feet.

Color

Mini soccer net frames typically come in neon colors so they stand out on fields of grass. Orange, yellow and red are common. You can also find black or white frames and the odd green ones. The nets are typically white.

Quantity

Mini soccer nets come individually or in sets of two. If you’re only practicing shots with your own child or children, one is usually enough — unless you want to set up a mini soccer field in the backyard. If you’re coaching a full team, you need at least two but likely more. With multiple nets, kids can participate in drills in small groups, which means no one has to wait too long to play.

Extras

Some mini soccer nets include extra gear. Soccer balls are commonly included, with many also bundling in a manual air pump. Cones for practicing footwork are also common.

Cost

Mini soccer nets can cost as little as $15 or as much as $100-plus. Most single-net packages cost less than $50. Sets that include more than one net and other gear typically start around $30.
