Which brand makes the best microwaves?

Many people know LG and Samsung for their high-quality personal electronics and televisions. But both companies also have a reputation for manufacturing some of the best household appliances on the market. This is especially true for their kitchen appliances, which utilize high-tech designs to create durable appliances at a reasonable price point.

Microwaves are an essential part of a fully stocked kitchen. When comparing Samsung microwave vs. LG microwave models, both brands offer an array of units equipped with state-of-the-art cooking technology. Both companies carry over-the-range microwaves and standard countertop microwaves.

While both companies have microwaves that will satisfy your needs, Samsung’s products have all the newest bells and whistles and have a price tag to match. LG microwaves are less expensive, but may lack some of the special features found in Samsung products.

Samsung microwaves

Since the 1970s, Samsung has created products that represent high-quality, cutting-edge technology. Its microwaves are no exception. It offers over-the-range and countertop microwaves ranging from 1.1-2.1 cubic feet. Its microwaves also have several color options including silver, black and white.

All Samsung microwaves offer multiple cooking settings, an easy-to-clean interior and simple installation. They are an ideal choice for anybody looking to add a new appliance to their kitchen. If you want to upgrade your entire kitchen, Samsung offers package bundles with refrigerators, ovens and dishwashers.

They range in price depending on size, features, installation method and power level. You can find a Samsung microwave between $160 to $500.

Samsung microwaves pros

Samsung has various different microwave sizes, making it easy to find one that works for your home setup. It also has state-of-the-art sensor technology, making it easier to cook your food evenly. The Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to operate your microwave from a distance and also hooks up your Samsung microwave to several different smart devices. And if you need more than one microwave, there are package deals available.

Samsung microwaves cons

There are very few convection microwaves models available, which some users may miss. And despite offering similar features and performance as other competitors, Samsung’s microwaves cost more.

Best Samsung microwaves

Samsung 1.1-Cubic-Foot Countertop Microwave Oven

This Samsung countertop microwave operates at 1,000 watts and has a 1.1-cubic-foot capacity. It's an ideal choice for small kitchens, dorm rooms and other tight spaces.

Samsung 1.9-Cubic-Foot Countertop Microwave

If you need more capacity in a countertop unit, consider this 1.9-cubic-foot Samsung microwave oven. It has 10 preset programs, a defrost function and an easy-to-clean ceramic interior. The stand-out feature is sensor technology, which sets the cooking time based on moisture and temperature levels for precise results. Operating at 950 watts, it's not the most powerful option; it'll take longer for food to cook in a larger interior.

Samsung 1.1-Cubic-Foot Smart Slim Over-the-Range Microwave

Use a smartphone, or even your voice, to remotely control this sleek Wi-Fi-enabled Samsung slim microwave. It has 38 presets, a fingerprint-resistant finish and ample ventilation to remove odors and grease spots. This Samsung microwave has a 1.1-cubic-foot capacity but is slightly more powerful at 1,100 watts, meaning it'll cook food faster.

Samsung 2.1-Cubic-Foot Over-the-Range Microwave

If you're looking for an over-the-range Samsung microwave with a larger capacity, this 2.1-cubic-foot unit is the one to buy. It has an efficient ventilation system, 10 presets, a defrost function and sensor cooking. The ceramic interior is easy to clean and the fingerprint-resistant finish keeps the exterior from looking grubby. Although the interior is spacious, it only operates at 1,000 watts.

LG microwaves

LG offers over-the-range and countertop microwaves in an array of sizes, from 0.9 to 2.2 cubic feet. With 21 different products to choose from, LG manufactures microwaves for every type of customer, from the hungry college student to the semi-professional home chef

All of its products feature Smart Inverter technology, which allows for precise temperature control that previous microwaves could not handle. This technology, combined with LG’s patented EasyClean interiors, simplifies the cooking process and ensures evenly cooked food and easy cleanup.

Unlike some of its top competitors, LG microwaves come equipped with a convection technology feature, so you can use it just as you would a standard oven. While this feature is only available in their premium products, it is a game-changing option if you find yourself short on space. Similar to Samsung, these range in price depending on size, features, installation type and power. You can expect to spend between $160 to $800 on an LG microwave.

LG microwaves pros

LG offers plenty of high-quality, budget-conscious options. It has convection technology available in premium models. If you prefer to use an over-the-range model, LG makes sure its microwaves have full ventilation. And should you have a specific finish or color in mind, its microwaves come in several designs and finishes.

LG microwaves cons

There aren’t any bundled deals available, and many of its microwaves lack some of the advanced features available from other brands.

Best LG microwaves

LG NeoChef 2-Cubic-Foot Countertop Microwave

This LG NeoChef microwave has a 2-cubic-foot capacity and plenty of functionality, including seven sensor cook, five reheat and four defrost settings. The interior resists stains and food buildup. Its large size is managed by a more powerful 1,200-watt heating element for efficient cooking.

LG NeoChef 0.9-Cubic-Foot Countertop Microwave

This LG countertop microwave is a smaller, more affordable unit in the NeoChef lineup. It shares the same sensor cook, reheat and defrost settings and easy-to-clean interior as the larger model. It has a space-saving design with a 0.9-cubic-foot capacity supported by a 1,000-watt heating element, so it cooks more efficiently than the larger version.

LG 1.7-Cubic-Foot Over-the-Range Microwave

This over-the-range microwave is cost-effective for its size. It has 11 cook settings, including defrost and reheat. The interior is easy to clean. The ventilation system is sufficient, but less powerful than other models. This LG microwave has a 1.7-cubic-foot capacity and a 1,000-watt heating element.

LG 2.0-Cubic-Foot Over-the-Range Microwave

This over-the-range microwave has a sleek, minimalist profile. It's controllable using Alexa or Google Assistant, with six presets and a defrost function. This microwave has a good ventilation system, an easy-to-clean interior and a spacious 2-cubic-foot capacity. That said, the 1,050-watt heating element isn't as efficient as that of other units.

Should you get a Samsung or an LG microwave?

It depends on your needs, desires and budget. While Samsung makes high-performing microwaves with Wi-Fi connectivity and voice-enabled technology, they are more expensive. If that’s within your price range, and something you want in your kitchen setup, a Samsung is likely the best choice. However, the more affordable price point and convection technology that comes with LG microwaves certainly gives its products an edge.
