There are all sorts of reasons for getting stretch marks. Pregnancy is the obvious one, when the skin can’t handle the rapid expansion, but similarly they may show up after a growth spurt in teenagers or from weight gain — bodybuilders are notably prone. The good news is that they will fade (or sometimes disappear) over time, but meanwhile, a good cream that can hydrate and moisturize may help fade and diminish their appearance, as well as protect against future stretch marks. Body butters with cocoa butter, coconut and shea oils have been the traditional go-to, but creams can be easier to apply, and will contain a variety of active ingredients like vitamin E or lanolin.
