For quickly and safely disassembling pallets,  pallet buster is a great tool to have. Most pallet busters are used by placing them underneath one slat so that the base of the tool rests on a perpendicular slat, then pulling down on the handle until the upper slat comes free. The longer the handle, the easier it will be to apply pressure and pull the slats apart. If you need your slats intact for reuse, look for pallet busters that are gentle on wood and have wide jaws to prevent breaking the wood. Most pallet busters are made of solid steel, and not all models include a handle.
