Artificial grass was developed for playing fields, since it’s easily cleaned and won’t be worn down, and for the same reason, it’s also a great resource for pet toilet needs. Dogs prefer to use grass to relieve themselves, so artificial turf makes a good stand-in that can be placed outside on a patio to provide a regular potty place that can be easily cleaned. Some mats come with a tray to create a “pet loo” so that they can be used on balconies or indoors – useful for crate training, housebound pets (for instance, after surgery), or apartment dwellers. A perforated mat that allows drainage is a must — you can't re-purpose artificial grass decor rugs. Also look for a mat that is lead-free and non-toxic. For indoor use, antimicrobial odor control is also useful.
