Can you wear compression shorts all the time?

Compression wear has become more popular over the years. The technology and materials used for improving circulation in legs are used in shirts, sleeves and shorts. Compression apparel is so comfortable that some people like to wear it regularly.

But can you wear compression shorts like normal shorts or even underwear?  It's an interesting consideration that deserves more exploration. No matter how long you plan to wear your compression shorts, there is a wide variety to choose from.

In this article: Under Armour Men's HeatGear Long Shorts, G Gradual Women's Spandex Compression Shorts and Shock Doctor Boy's Compression Short.

Can you wear compression shorts as underwear?

If you're looking to replace traditional underwear with compression shorts, there are some advantages, as long as the shorts fit correctly. Compression shorts are more comfortable and stay in place more easily than underwear. They won't rub against your skin or shift awkwardly.

Will they be too tight?

The biggest consideration is the tightness of your compression shorts. Whether you're wearing them all day or a few hours while working out, you want shorts that stay in place without being too tight.

You should check your waist for proper fit. Compression shorts should be tight around your thighs, not your waist. If your waist and hips feel pinched and uncomfortable, or you notice that your waistband is pushing hard into your stomach, you likely need a larger size.

Also, see if your waistband stays in place when you bend over. If it is sliding and you need to reposition it every time you bend over, it is too tight.

What does the right fit feel like?

The right compression shorts should take a little effort to pull on, but not so much that you have to use all your strength just to get them on.

You should feel the material grip your thighs and glutes, but you shouldn't feel your circulation has been compromised. Your hips and stomach shouldn't feel pinched.

As you bend over, run or move around, the shorts should stay in place. If your shorts aren't shifting, you know you have the right compression shorts.

FAQ

Q. How do you wash compression shorts?

A. Hand-washing is always the best option. You should use cold water and let the shorts air dry. Some compression shorts are machine-washable, but you should follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Q. Do compression shorts have a warranty?

A. Most compression shorts manufacturers offer a limited warranty. Some warranties cover only the first 30 to 60 days from the date of purchase. Other warranties have an unlimited satisfaction guarantee. Check with your manufacturer for specific parameters.
