Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard Review

Is the Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard worth it?

Many people use their computer every day. Those who work from home likely use it for 40 hours or more each week. While these devices can be handy, standard keyboards aren’t designed with ergonomics in mind. Carpal tunnel syndrome affects up to 5% of the global population, and regular keyboard use can cause or aggravate this syndrome.

Logitech claims the K860’s design reduces muscle strain while providing more wrist support. Our testing team used it throughout the week to see if it’s as comfortable as Logitech says.

Testing the Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard

The BestReviews Testing Lab strives to investigate every claim the brand/manufacturer makes about the product. For this article, our testing lab set the keyboard up to test its Bluetooth connectivity. Logitech claims the K860 lets you type more naturally; our testing team used it daily to put this claim to the test. They used it roughly 40 hours in one week to determine whether it was more ergonomic than a standard keyboard.

Our testing team cleaned the keyboard, paying close attention to whether this process was straightforward. The testers scrutinized the keys’ loudness while typing, comparing them to other keyboards they’d tested.

What is the Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard?

It has a unique curved design with a split keyboard. According to Logitech, this design lets you type more naturally while reducing wrist strain. In testing it, our team determined it didn’t feel more natural, but it effectively reduced wrist strain. Per our testing team, this seems like the optimal keyboard shape for someone to learn with, but there is a bit of an adjustment period if you’re used to using a standard keyboard.

It has a wrist support made of a memory foam material that doesn’t irritate sensitive skin. Our testing team was disappointed it wasn’t detachable, as the keyboard is relatively bulky. Still, they said it felt comfortable and sturdy.

Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard price and where to buy

The K860 costs around $130 and can be purchased from Amazon.

How to use the Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard

Setting up the K860 was straightforward. Our testing team pulled the strip out of the battery compartment, and their MacBook detected it immediately. They had to type six letters and answer a few simple questions to pair the keyboard.

Typing on the K860 is nearly the same as a standard keyboard. Even though the keyboard is split, the buttons are organized so that most people will use the same fingers for specific keys. For example, the left side of the right keyboard ends with “y,” “h” and “n,” while the right side of the left keyboard ends with the “t,” “g” and “b” keys. Still, it will extend the adjustment period if you favor using your left hand for any of the keys on the right side or vice versa. One of our testers generally uses their left finger for the “y” and "h” keys and had trouble adjusting to the layout.

The wrist rest helped our testing team find an optimal position for their wrists. The gaps between the keys are relatively wide. Our testing team used an air duster to clean between the keys with ease.

Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard benefits

This Logitech keyboard was easy to set up. Our testing team expected the process to be less straightforward when using a Mac laptop but ran into no issues. The wrist rest was durable and comfortable. Our testing team quickly noticed a change in their hand positioning and said it was more comfortable than using a standard keyboard.

One of our testers, who has sensitive skin, said they didn’t notice any skin irritation when using the wrist rest for extended periods. Additionally, it has a stand under the wrist rest to help you find a comfortable position for your hands.

Some keys are elongated, making them easier to click when typing. When pressed, the keys make a slight clicking sound, but the noise isn’t distracting. Our testing team noted that the keys’ loudness is on par with the built-in keyboard on the MacBook.

Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Keyboard drawbacks

The split keyboard design takes some time to get used to. Other ergonomic keyboards like the Logitech K350 have a similar curved design without splitting the keys. If you’re used to using your left hand for keys on the right side, you may find the design unappealing.

Our testing team loved the wrist support but wished it was detachable. The K860 is slightly larger than a standard keyboard, so it would be nice if you could remove the wrist rest to make it take up less space.

Should you get the Logitech K860?

If you use your keyboard daily and often experience wrist strain, you’ll love the Logitech K860’s ergonomic design. Although it doesn’t feel as natural as a standard keyboard, our testing team notes that this doesn’t mean it isn’t a more natural design from an ergonomic standpoint. The wrist rest and curved design effectively reduce or eliminate wrist strain.

Still, if you don’t have much space on your desk or are used to using your left hand for the right side of your keyboard, you’ll likely want to explore other options. The split keyboard design takes some time to get used to, and the wrist rest isn’t removable.
