About the product
A high-quality TV for those looking for an upgrade
A follow-up to the well-received Samsung QN90C, the 2024 Samsung Neo QLED 4K (QN90D) boasts the brand’s most powerful and cinematic 4K experience to date. Samsung claims the QN90D’s updated NQ4 AI Gen2 processor can “transform content into beautiful 4K with scene-by-scene clarity.” Plus, it comes with a host of new features that aim to enhance the user experience, whether you’re watching sports or playing the latest video games.
To see just how good the QN90D really is, the BestReviews Testing Lab put it through its paces and came away impressed, giving it high marks for its picture quality and gaming features. Overall, it’s a great option for those looking for a premium 4K TV that includes all the apps and features you’ve come to expect from a modern TV.
What is the QN90D?
Product specifications
Size: 43” to 98” | Refresh Rate: 144 Hz at 4K | Resolution: 4K | Connectivity: 4 HDMI (1 eARC), Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, Optical Audio | Extra Features: Dolby Atmos
The QN90D’s updated NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor comes with 20 AI neural networks to boost the picture and sound quality. The QN90D also includes Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology, which is designed to offer ultra-fine light controls, creating enhanced detail in both the darkest and brightest scenes. During our testing, the QN90D’s picture had deep blacks, vibrant colors and excellent brightness levels. All the images were very sharp. For instance, when looking at faraway cityscapes and landscapes, you could clearly see details like the shingles on rooftops and the spray from ocean waves.
To improve contrast and visual separation, Samsung’s Real Depth Enhancer Pro sharpens images in the foreground and enhances the visibility of the main subjects. We loved the clear definition during testing. The QN90D also comes with additional advanced features to enhance your experience, such as Active Voice Amplifier Pro, which improves your favorite TV shows and movies by letting you hear dialogue and sound effects the way the director intended.

The Samsung QN90D, which comes in sizes from 43 inches up to 98 inches, starts at $1,499 and is available at Best Buy.
Why we like it
Picture quality
We came away very impressed with the QN90D’s picture quality during our testing. Images appeared lifelike and defined. The whites were crisp with clear distinctions in tone and warmth; blacks were deep and, in images with heavy shadows, there were clear distinctions between dark colors.
Brightness
While some of the brightness was dimmed at the very edges, overall, the brightness was really good throughout the screen — an important metric for any high-end TV.
Viewing angle
We were especially pleased with the QN90D’s viewing angle. Except for some extreme angles, the QN90D’s picture didn’t degrade when viewed from various degrees during our testing.
Tizen OS
We were big fans of Samsung’s upgraded 2024 Tizen OS, which puts content front and center in a new user-friendly layout.
Gaming features
The QN90D is built with Motion Xcelerator 144 Hz, which provides crisp visuals and blazing-fast speeds for next-gen gaming.
What we don’t like
Build and design
While it’s not a badly built TV, it’s not a construction that stands out among the pack.
Input lag
There was some noticeable input lag while we were gaming with a PlayStation 5 but not enough to really complain about.
Sound
While the bass was the best of the Samsung TVs we have tested, we still recommend getting a sound bar to achieve better sound clarity and quality.
Gaming features
In our testing, we thought the QN90D was a solid gaming TV, performing very well while we used a PS5. The QN90D is designed with Samsung’s Motion Xcelerator, which brings the frame rate up to 144 Hz. We love the crisp visuals and fast speeds, but we did notice some slight input lag. Still, this is a TV worth upgrading to if you want to make the most out of next-gen consoles.
We also had high praise for Samsung’s built-in Gaming Hub, which provides access to more than 3,000 cloud-based titles from Xbox Game Pass, Sony, Origin and Steam. It's a great feature for those looking for a minimalist setup. You can even pair your own Bluetooth controller to the TV.
Accessibility and convenience features
Samsung has been busy making its TV technology more accessible and inclusive to provide everyone with more options to enjoy the content they love. New for 2024, the QN90D includes Audio Subtitles, the world’s first on-device TV feature that uses AI and Optical Character Recognition technology to provide a voice guide for embedded subtitles in real time.
The QN90D also introduces the Remote for Barrier Free, enabling intuitive control via a customizable smartphone app. With well-placed buttons, distinct colors and tactile feedback, the app integrates seamlessly with the TV, offering easy access to Samsung's latest accessibility features directly from your smartphone.
Samsung also included an updated version of last year’s Relumino Mode called Relumino Together Mode, which dynamically outlines the edges of on-screen elements and rebalances colors to help users with low vision see people and objects with greater clarity.
4K technology
We came away very impressed with the 4K resolution on the QN90D. During our testing, we were most impressed by color accuracy, where blacks were inky and deep, whites were very crisp and clear, and there was real definition between objects and backgrounds.
The NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor is the powerhouse behind vivid images, creating faster performance, which optimizes pictures and resolution. Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology and Real Depth Enhancer Pro also add to the impressive picture, providing accurate detail, sharpness and color accuracy.
2024 Tizen OS
The QN90D comes with Samsung’s refreshed OS, Tizen. We found this to be a big improvement over previous versions of Tizen. Samsung’s OS is similar to other smart TVs and smart devices. Users can now also make separate profiles in a household to tailor content and streaming apps to their preferences.
Along with the Samsung Gaming Hub, Tizen also includes Daily+, a Samsung platform that brings together other Samsung apps, including SmartThings, Health, Communication and Workspace.
How does it compare to other OLED and QLED TVs we’ve tested?
While a little more expensive, the QN90D compares favorably to other OLED and QLED TVs, including brands like LG, TCL and Hisense. Overall, it’s a solid choice that’s more than likely to meet or exceed most people’s needs.
Testing the QN90D
While testing the Samsung QN90D, we viewed the TV from several different angles to get a sense of picture quality, including brightness, color accuracy, viewing angle, anti-glare and sharpness. We also used the TV in various formats to get an idea of the user interface.
To test gaming performance, we used a PS5 to see how it handled next-gen graphics, input lag and VRR. We tested games in various game modes that the QN90D offers.
Should you get the QN90D?
If you’re looking to pull the trigger on a next-generation smart TV, the QN90D is a solid choice if your preference is a QLED screen. While there are some nitpicks, the QND90D comes packed with the latest technology to provide a crisp, clear and color-accurate screen you’re sure to enjoy.
