An OLED powerhouse

The premiere TV in Samsung’s OLED TV line, the all-new Samsung S95D OLED TV is a powerhouse. The brightest OLED TV Samsung has ever built, the S95D is the first OLED TV to feature OLED glare-free technology, which allows the display in even the brightest of rooms to have a perfect picture. The BestReviews Testing Lab extensively tested this TV, judging it for its brightness, color accuracy and gaming performance. We were so impressed, we named it our best OLED TV of 2024.

Price and where to buy

The Samsung S95D, which ranges in size from 55 to 77 inches, starts at $2,599 and can be purchased at Best Buy.

Why we like it

Overall display

The S95D’s display was outstanding when we tested it. It offers impeccable color balance, striking brightness, deep blacks and spot-on color accuracy.

Brightness

During testing, we thought the brightness on the S95D was very clear, crisp and uniform. OLED TVs are known for their stunning brightness, and the S95D is no exception.

Gaming performance

The S95D’s gaming performance was exceptional, boasting a premium refresh rate and no motion blur. Our game of Fortnite looked and played incredibly sharp. The graphics processing capabilities were also outstanding.

Sleek design

The S95D features a super slim design — under 11 millimeters, according to Samsung — so it looks nearly invisible from the top and the side. We were also big fans of the One Connect Box, which makes connecting your devices to your TV very easy.

What we don’t like

Sound quality

Like most modern smart TVs, we found the sound quality to be lacking. There are eight built-in mini speakers, but we felt the bass was incredibly weak. A sound bar or separate audio system is necessary.

Remote

The remote was finicky while we were testing. We had to hold the remote up parallel to the TV to get the voice feature to work properly.

Picture quality

Samsung S95D
Pantone-validated colors give the S95D amazing color accuracy.

As is expected for top-end OLED TVs, the picture quality of the S95D is simply astounding. Built with Samsung’s NQ4 AI Gen 2 Processor, the S95D’s brightness is striking, giving it a vibrant picture. Samsung’s OLED TVs are also validated by Pantone, which means that pictures are color-accurate according to Pantone’s industry-leading color experts. In addition to the color accuracy, the S95D comes with OLED HDR Pro, which creates a richer picture when viewing HDR content.

While testing, we also loved the S95D’s deep, inky blacks, which looked very dark and opaque, and the bright, clean whites. As mentioned, the color accuracy is great, too — even muted colors have a degree of crispness to them. It’s seriously great at everything!

Gaming features

Samsung S95D
The S95D’s 144 Hz variable refresh rate makes it a great choice for gamers.

OLED TVs are big among gaming enthusiasts, as they offer high refresh rates, fantastic graphic processing and minimal input lag. The S95D has all of these features and then some. For instance, while testing Fortnite on max settings with a PS5, we were simply blown away. The graphics processing was genuinely impressive. Truly, the S95D is a workhorse — it handles next-gen gaming with ease.

The S95D also boasts a 144 Hz variable refresh rate (VRR), meaning motion blur is never an issue. We detected almost zero input lag. Overall, it’s an ideal TV for gamers looking to level up their home theater system in order to gain an edge in competitive gaming.

We also like the convenience of Samsung’s Gaming Hub, which allows gamers to access Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation, Origin and Steam games directly on the S95D. This is a great option for gamers looking to simplify their setup.

Sleek design

Samsung S95D
One of the thinnest OLED TVs on the market, the S95D measures just 11 millimeters thick.

The S95D is a beautiful TV — the 11-millimeter-thick screen seems almost impossible. We think the S95D is not only OLED excellence but design excellence as well. The bezel measures to be about a centimeter. The S95D’s stand also adds to the minimalist design, only having one dark gray stand in the middle, making it easy to place in your home theater setup.

OLED glare-free technology

Samsung S95D
The S95D is the first Samsung TV to use OLED glare-free technology.

The S95D is Samsung’s first-ever TV to feature their new OLED glare-free technology. No matter if you’re in the brightest room or the darkest, this new technology ensures the same picture quality no matter what and without any color distortion. During testing, we felt the matte-looking screen was seriously impressive. Though we were skeptical about it at first, ultimately, we loved how the matte design looked.

OneConnect Box

Samsung S95D
The One Connect Box means no more messy wires to deal with.

Samsung’s OneConnect Box has become increasingly popular and is a great addition to the S95D. The One Connect Box lets you connect your cable, satellite box or video game system to a TV or smart monitor without having wires dangling from behind the device. It also allows more flexibility for buyers who mount their TVs to their walls. You can keep it attached behind the TV or place it elsewhere.

The OneConnect Box comes with four HDMI 2.1 ports, optimized for gaming, and high-quality audio and video. The external box allows for mounting to be seamless.

How does it compare to other Samsung TVs we’ve tested?

This is our top pick out of Samsung’s new 2024 TVs, even beating out the flashy QN900D. This is such a well-packaged TV, that it beats out the QN900D in terms of bang for the buck. What the QN900D does offer is 8K technology, but we don’t think that will be a big deal until 8K formats are more widely accepted.

Testing the S95D

Samsung S95D
The testing team evaluated the S95D’s performance, color accuracy and more.

We conducted numerous tests on the S95D, assessing metrics such as brightness, color accuracy, viewing angle degradation, anti-glare properties and sharpness. Additionally, we evaluated picture quality across various formats, including both HDR and non-HDR content.

For gaming performance, we used a PS5 to examine the S95D’s capacity to handle next-gen graphics, input lag and VRR. We extensively examined the S95D’s performance across different gaming modes to gauge their processing capabilities.

Should you get the S95D?

Samsung S95D
The testing team found the Samsung S95D to be a superior OLED 4K TV.

If you’ve been looking to pull the trigger on a high-end OLED 4K TV, look no further than the Samsung S95D. It is simply a stunner, earning high marks across all of our criteria. It has an amazing picture and performs well in even the brightest rooms with its anti-glare technology, matte screen and minimal degradation when viewed from an angle. This TV is also future-proofed for the next generation of gaming.

While there are cheaper OLED TVs on the market, none will beat the quality of the S95D.
