Some people believe Samsung headphones need a “burn-in” period to generate the best sound. This means running the headphones for several hours at medium-high volume. (You don’t have to be using them during this period!)

Key considerations

When comparing Samsung headphones, the design is a key differentiator. Samsung offers headphones in a variety of configurations, giving you plenty of choices.

Types

Samsung headphones are available in two primary styles: earbuds and over-ear headphones.

Over-ear headphones: This traditional style has been around for decades. It is composed of a headband that connects two ear cushions that cover the ears. The headband adjusts the position of the cushions over your ears, ensuring a comfortable fit. These headphones tend to deliver better sound quality than earbuds. Some traditional headphones from Samsung also fold down to a smaller size to make them easier to carry with you. On the downside, some people dislike the feel of the headband and what it does to their hair.

Earbuds: Earbuds fit inside the ear and are quite a bit smaller than over-ear headphones. Some earbuds are connected by a wire, while others are separate and operate wirelessly. For maximum portability, earbuds are the preferred choice.

Earpieces

  • Over-ear (circumaural): These headphones have ear cushions that cover the ears to deliver maximum comfort while blocking some or all external noise.
  • In-ear (intra-aural): The earpieces fit inside the ear, like earbuds. Multiple shapes are available in Samsung headphones, and the shape affects the comfort level when wearing them.
  • On-ear (supra-aural): These headphones sit on top of the ears but don’t enclose them like circumaural headphones. Some people consider these to be the most comfortable, but it can be difficult to keep them in place if you’re moving.

Connection

  • Wireless: Wireless Samsung headphones connect to your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or another device via a Bluetooth connection, which means the headphones and connected device must be within about 30 feet of each other. Wireless devices are convenient, but they can drop the connection occasionally.
  • Wired: Wired Samsung headphones plug into a port on your device. This ensures a secure connection, but some people dislike the hassle of wires while wearing headphones.

If your wireless earbuds frequently drop the connection, it could be due to interference from other Bluetooth devices. Keep the smartphone as close to the earbuds as possible.

You can adjust the volume of Ambient Aware or turn it off completely through the app.

Noise Cancellation

Some Samsung headphones have active noise cancellation, which means you can focus on what you’re listening to rather than be distracted by any noises around you.

PowerShare

If your Samsung smartphone supports WPC Qi wireless charging, you may be able to charge your Galaxy Buds+ from the phone whenever the earbuds are running low on power. Just place the earbuds on the back of the smartphone near the battery, and the earbuds will pull power from the battery.

Swift Pair

Swift Pair is a Microsoft technology that Samsung includes with some of its Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ earbuds. It allows for fast and automatic pairing of the earbuds with a computer running Windows 10.

Tips

If you choose Samsung Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Buds+, it’s important to care for them properly to ensure they perform well and last a long time. Here are some tips to protect and clean them.

  • Clean your earbuds regularly. Earbuds accumulate dust, oils from the skin, and earwax, and these can affect the quality of the sound and even muffle it. Cleaning your earbuds regularly will help maintain the audio quality. Start by carefully removing the tip of the earbud. Use a dry cotton swab to remove debris from all sides of the tip and the mesh area. If the earbuds need additional cleaning, use a microfiber cloth.
  • Do not use liquids. Do not use any type of cleaning solution on your earbuds because the liquid could penetrate the material and damage the electronics.
  • Clean the charging case. Use a dry cotton swab and a microfiber cloth on the charging case, too, ensuring the contact points are able to work efficiently.
  • Use the Buds app to find your earbuds. If you misplace your Galaxy Buds, you can use the Buds finder app to locate them. As long as the earbuds have power and an active Bluetooth connection, you can find them using the app. The earbuds will emit a faint beep. Note that this feature won’t work if the earbuds are more than about 30 feet from the smartphone.

FAQ

Q. Do I need to care about the frequency range listed with the headphones?

A. The frequency range can help you choose your Samsung headphones, but it’s not the only specification to consider. The range the manufacturer indicates is the theoretical range the headphones can reach. Given that average human hearing is between 20 and 20,000 hertz and has the highest level of sensitivity between 20 and 5,000 hertz, a frequency range that’s wider than that probably won’t make any difference.

Q. Do I want closed or open Samsung headphones?

A. Closed headphones have a closed back on the ear cushions, which blocks some external noise. Open headphones have a grill-type design on the back of the ear cushions. Nearly all Samsung’s headphones are closed to limit external noise.

Q. Can headphone use cause hearing damage?

A. Yes. If you play your headphones at a volume that’s too high for too long, you will suffer hearing damage. Try to set the volume lower than you think it should be. You can train yourself to enjoy music at lower volume levels.

Q. Will my Samsung headphones break if I drop them?

A. Possibly. After an accident, inspect the headphone jack for a bent pin or cracked wiring. The cabling near the ear cushions could get cracked, too, exposing the wiring. For wireless earbuds, cracks in the plastic could significantly affect functionality.
