Kids love this interactive drawing app and erasable board, which features engaging characters that encourage creativity.

Pros

Easy-to-use app is a hit with kids, and the included dry erase board and markers offer extra savings to parents rather than using up paper. Monster game is available in Spanish. Works with iPad or there's a Fire tablet version.

Cons

Dry erase board is prone to scratching, which can make it harder for Osmo to scan the drawings correctly. Markers don’t last long.

Learning the concepts of computer coding is a popular activity in the 21st century classroom, and this Osmo add-on game introduces children and adults to these concepts in a very entertaining way.

Pros

Good introduction to the concept of computer coding. Gameplay is appealing to adult users as well. Popular among students with ADHD and autism.

Cons

Will not work without an additional Osmo base. Coding results are variable. Some younger children may lose interest quickly.

Bottom Line

Combines coding with music so kids can express their creativity in different configurations.

Pros

Kids can create unique music patterns depending on how they put the pieces together, encouraging creativity within a coding environment. Allows some of the coding blocks from Awbie to be used (but not vice versa).

Cons

Doesn’t hold kids’ attention as long as other Osmo games. Less goal-oriented than Awbie.

Osmo is one of the most engaging learning apps on the market. The kit combines a tablet-based app and real-world based elements like drawing pads, shapes, numbers and coding blocks. The result? Kids are fascinated by the learning-based games and creative challenges offered by the various games available. The first purchase should be a base kit – Osmo currently offers two kits, available in separate versions for the more recent generations of iPads, Android tablets or Kindle Fire tablets. Then, add-on games can be purchased separately – from additional coding challenges to Disney-themed drawing apps to Mattel racing games and more. But many kids get hours of fun out of the three core apps that come with the Osmo kits.
