This hatching megalodon toy is the next holiday fad — and it launched today

Primal Hatch

We’re calling it — Primal Hatch’s Hatching Megalodon is the toy of the season

If you saw last year's viral hatching T-rex toy and thought the obvious move was to make it wetter and creepier, you might have a promising career in toy design. Spin Master, the company behind the must-have Primal Hatch toys from the last few years, just dropped Primal Hatch Megalodon, and this is your official notice that this will be the next holiday "it" toy.

Kids ages 5 and up put the giant egg into its reusable hatch tank and add water, which then starts fizzing and turns red. Then, the Megalodon roars and bursts from its shell with glowing red eyes. All 16 inches of Megalodon. It's impressive, to say the least.

But the best part is that the fun isn't over after you hatch your prehistoric shark. The entire hatch can be repeated, because unlike other hatching toys, this time, the tank and egg components are designed to be rinsed, dried and reset so kids can fill the tank and unleash the shark again and again. They can also continue to play with the unleashed Megalodon, which is interactive with lights and sound effects.

This is sure to be a huge hit during the upcoming holiday season. Spin Master was also behind the Jurassic World Primal Hatch, which won both Toy of the Year and Action Figure of the Year at the 2026 TOTY Awards.

“Primal Hatch was wildly viral last year and Bitzee was the toy of the season the year before,” says BestReviews Executive Editor Maria Guido. “Spin Master has essentially been churning out the 'it toy' of the season the last few years. I met Ben Dermer, the engineer behind the Hatching Megalodon at this year’s Toy Fair and his passion for fun was palpable.”

Translation for parents: This is one to buy early if you think your kids will love it. It may get hard to find as the holiday season approaches.
