To say Serena Williams has an impressive list of athletic accomplishments is the understatement of the century. With four Olympic gold medals, 23 Grand Slam singles titles and another 16 doubles titles throughout her storied career, she is an undeniable force and inspiration among all athletes, but especially women. And now, there is a Serena Williams Barbie released in time to celebrate International Day of the Girl. It honors Williams' historic win over Lindsay Davenport at the 2005 Australian Open.

The Barbie in Serena's likeness is wearing the green-and-white cutout top with mesh detailing and crisp white skirt that she wore to compete in the Australian Open, complete with matching boots, socks and a sweatband. She's also holding a tennis racket, of course. The win was her seventh Grand Slam singles title and came on the heels of an injury that ended her chances of competing in 2004. The moment of triumph is just one of many throughout Williams' outstanding career that would be worthy of its own Barbie.

Last year, in honor of International Day of the Girl, Barbie celebrated a Team Barbie lineup of athlete role models who young girls can feel inspired by and look up to. Now, Serena is joining Team Barbie, too.
For years, girls and women have looked up to Serena for her athletic talent and her shining confidence, showing by example how to never give up and always bring your 'A' game. “Growing up, I didn’t see many girls who looked like me being told there was no limit to who they could become," Williams says in a press release. "I want every girl who plays with this doll to see possibility — not just in me, but in herself. She can dream big, work hard, change direction, break barriers and become anything she chooses. That’s what makes having my own Barbie so meaningful to me.”
"As we celebrate International Day of the Girl, Barbie is proud to honor Serena Williams," says Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie, Mattel. "Barbie has always inspired girls to believe they can be anything, from the sports stadium to the fashion runway to the boardroom. Serena Williams embodies that message through her extraordinary achievements as an athlete, entrepreneur and advocate for equality. By honoring her with a Barbie Signature doll, we’re celebrating a barrier-breaking icon whose legacy empowers fans everywhere to dream big and embrace their own potential."
