This is the one thing a Baseball Hall of Famer and hedge fund manager agree on

Why both believe everyone should consider investing in gold

It might be hard to imagine a hedge fund manager who spends his days reading investing charts and a Hall of Fame outfielder having something in common. Yet, both have arrived at the same conclusion about the fact that gold is a good investment.

The hedge fund manager's thoughts on gold

Ray Dalio is the founder of Bridgewater Associates, the largest hedge fund in the world. He has been speaking about blind spots in investing for years. In an interview last year with CNBC, he told reporters, “People don't have, typically, an adequate amount of gold in their portfolio. When bad times come, gold is a very effective diversifier."

He also spoke at the TIME summit in 2025 making the case for gold, saying, “It seems indisputably true to me that gold is a money and that it is the money that is least at risk of being devalued and/or confiscated.” This is in context to why gold has held its value for thousands of years, compared to other currencies.

He has also said in the past in written reflections that gold still remains important, even if many investors were watching AI and tech stocks.

The Hall of Famer who likes gold

Andre Dawson spent 21 seasons playing center and right field for the Expos, Cubs, Red Sox and Marlins, eventually earning his way into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. While he’s never managed the amounts of wealth Dalio did, he was known in the collector circles as having one of the more notable gold and rare coin collections. According to Sports Collector Digest, he sold this collection for a significant amount at auction.

How you can consider investing in gold

You may not have the resources that Dalio does with insight and experience in decades of data, nor Dawson’s ability to purchase coins only to sell later at auction. However, you can take advantage of gold and its ability to hold its value, unlike assets like stocks and other forms of currencies.

A Gold IRA can serve the same purpose. These accounts are like a traditional IRA, except you can use it to invest in physical gold and other types of precious metals. You can even roll over existing funds you have inside your other traditional IRAs or 401(k)s, and you’ll still have similar tax advantages.

When looking for Gold IRA companies, it’s important to look for reputable companies that offer transparent fees, strong reviews and a straightforward buyback program when you want to sell.

Best gold IRAs

 American Hartford Gold

Thor Metals Group

Thor Metals Group was founded in 2023 and is know for an education-forward approach to business.
