BestReviews put the PurSteam SteamTech Elite to work in real-world conditions to see how simple it was to use and how effectively it removed wrinkles. Testing included using the iron on several different types of fabric, including nylon, polyester, cotton, linen and a cotton/polyester blend. The setup, cleaning and maintenance processes were also put to the test to provide a clearer picture of the overall user experience.
The BestReviews Testing Lab conducts extensive testing to verify every claim made by brands and manufacturers about their products. For the PurSteam SteamTech Elite, our tester focused on its LED display and digital controls, the steam-burst feature for deeper wrinkles and the self-cleaning function for this review.
The PurSteam SteamTech Elite offers a near-perfect balance of performance, high-end features and affordability, making it an excellent value. With digital temperature control, fabric presets and an LED display, it provides a user-friendly ironing experience. Its steam-burst feature ensures that even the deepest creases and wrinkles are easily removed, making the SteamTech Elite a more efficient ironing tool. Its auto-shutoff function makes using the iron feel safer, too.
The PurSteam SteamTech Elite is very easy to set up and use. Its water tank opening is located at the back of the iron, near the top of its handle. With the iron unplugged, set the steam button to dry ironing. The leakproof water tank lid is easily opened by pulling up on its bottom edge. Use the included spouted measuring cup to fill the water tank to the maximum line indicated on the translucent water tank. Once the tank is filled, plug the iron in and press the preset for the appropriate fabric on the control panel beneath the handle. The iron takes a couple of minutes to heat up, but the pilot light turns off to indicate that the selected temperature has been reached.
The SteamTech Elite’s nonstick ceramic soleplate moves effortlessly over all types of fabric, including nylon, polyester, cotton and linen. The Steam Burst button is located right on the back of the handle, but the continuous-steam trigger switch must be turned off before you can use the steam shot. When you press the button, extra steam is released to help remove deeper wrinkles or creases. Wait a few seconds for the steam to fully penetrate the fabric before pressing the steam-burst button again. The spray button is located on the underside of the iron’s handle and can be used during both dry and steam ironing, provided there is water in the tank. It must be pressed a few times to get the spray going initially.

While many premium steam irons feature dial controls that regulate the temperature, the PurSteam SteamTech Elite has an LED display with touch buttons. These make the operation as user-friendly as possible because there’s no guesswork involved in ensuring the dial is in just the correct position. It features six presets for commonly worn fabrics, including nylon, silk, blends, wool, cotton and linen, making it easy to iron nearly anything. The 450-milliliter water tank also allows for up to 30 minutes of uninterrupted ironing.
The SteamTech Elite’s steam-burst function, which releases extra steam, is highly effective for removing deeper wrinkles, even on thicker or heavier fabrics. Its spray feature distributes its water very evenly, unlike some competitors, which can overly dampen a particular area or even drip. The SteamTech Elite also has important safety features, including an auto-shutoff that turns the iron off after eight minutes of inactivity (a chime alerts you when this happens). Maintenance is even easier with this iron, thanks to its self-cleaning feature, and it has an 8-foot cord.
While the PurSteam StemaTech Elite 1750W Steam Iron’s wrinkle-removing performance is top-notch, its anti-drip system isn’t 100% effective — it can sometimes drip if the temperature isn’t hot enough to produce steam.
Whether you only iron occasionally or have a wardrobe that requires regular ironing sessions, the PurSteam SteamTech Elite 1,750-watt Steam Iron is an excellent option. Its ironing performance is outstanding, allowing it to remove wrinkles from all fabric types. Additionally, its extra-large water tank enables you to iron multiple items without needing to refill. You won’t have to concern yourself too much with maintenance, either, thanks to the self-cleaning system. At nearly $30 less than models with similar features and performance, the SteamTech Elite stands out for its affordability, too.
