What to look for in cleaning appliances when shopping Presidents Day sales, according to expert

Expertly reviewed by Ketia Daniel

Presidents Day is just around the corner, and so are the sales that come with it. Falling on the third Monday in February, Presidents Day is a popular time for home items, especially appliances, to go on sale. If you're in the market for a replacement washer and dryer or vacuum, this is a great time to buy.

We asked BestReviews cleaning expert Ketia Daniel to share some guidance for scoring great deals on appliances this Presidents Day.

In this article: Hauslane 30-Inch Ducted Under-Cabinet Range HoodiRobot Roomba s9+ Robot Vacuum and Shark AV2501S AI Robot Vacuum with HEPA Self-Empty Base.

Appliances to look for on sale

If you don’t already have one, Daniel recommended taking advantage of the sales to get a range hood or exhaust hood, which captures grease and steam generated during cooking before it can settle on surfaces.

"Oftentimes homes without one, or a home that doesn’t utilize its range hood, accumulate more dirt and dust on their cabinets than the people who do," she said.

If you're replacing an old appliance, check to see what kind of smart features are offered on new models. App controls, lighting cues, programmability and other smart features are increasingly popular in everyday cleaning appliances.

"For tech-savvy buyers, buying a washer/dryer with Wi-Fi and phone capability are often important features to look for," Daniel said.

Warranties are important

No matter what kind of appliances you’re shopping for, Daniel recommended looking for models that come with a lifetime warranty. This indicates better build quality and manufacturer confidence in its product. It’s also a good idea to read through reviews to get an idea for how the product performs.
