The total solar eclipse is coming, and Warby Parker is giving away free glasses to view it safely

The Great North American Solar Eclipse is coming on April 8 — just over a month from now. The path of totality will cut a wide swath through the United States, giving people from Texas to Maine the rare chance to see a total solar eclipse for the last time until 2044.

But in order to view a solar eclipse safely, you need eye protection. If you live near a Warby Parker, you'll have a chance to grab a pair of free solar eclipse glasses. If not, there are pairs you can buy online, plus other safe viewing devices, including one you can make yourself.

Here's how to get your free eclipse glasses from Warby Parker (or make your own at home)

During the Great North American Solar Eclipse, almost every state in the contiguous U.S. will get at least a partial view, while the path of totality will cut through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Beginning April 1 and as long as supplies last, Warby Parker is giving away free ISO-certified eclipse viewing glasses at all its stores nationwide. (Not sure where the nearest Warby Parker is? Use this store locator.)

If you aren't near a Warby Parker store, the site is also offering a free downloadable template you can use to print and create a DIY eclipse pinhole projector — another way to safely view the eclipse.

Or you can order eclipse viewing glasses and devices online.
