Dove's most recognizable scent isn't fancy — it's the familiar, just-stepped-out-of-the-shower fragrance of its Original Beauty Bar, which has been a bathroom staple since 1957. Apparently, fans have spent years asking the brand to bottle that smell, and Dove has finally delivered. Today, Oct. 27, the company is releasing its first-ever fine fragrance, appropriately named Dove Original Fragrance.
This limited-edition eau de parfum is designed to capture the Beauty Bar's signature scent, and at just $19.57, it's significantly less expensive than most designer perfumes. According to Dove, the fragrance has been one of its most requested products, with fans repeatedly asking for it in social media comments, messages and online discussions. Now there's a waiting list to get your hands on a bottle.
Dove partnered with legendary fragrance developer Ann Gottlieb, whose work includes Calvin Klein's CK One, Dior's J'adore and Marc Jacobs' Daisy, to turn the Beauty Bar's scent into something you can wear all day. The perfume opens with the familiar clean, soapy freshness of the original bar, but Gottlieb softened some of its sharper fresh notes and added floral and creamy elements to make the scent more wearable.
The result is a light, airy fragrance with a soft, floral-powdery finish that sits close to the skin rather than overwhelming it. Gottlieb told "InStyle" that she drew inspiration not only from the bar's smell, but also from its creamy appearance and rich lather. She described the finished fragrance as "sheer yet assertive," making it suitable for wearing alone or layering with other perfumes.
The packaging is just as carefully considered: The custom glass bottle mimics the curved oval shape of the Original Beauty Bar and features a sculptural gold dove-shaped cap.

Here's the catch, though: Dove Original Fragrance is a one-time, limited-edition release, and the company says it won't be restocked once it sells out. The fragrance will be available beginning today at 9 a.m. PT (noon ET). The waiting list opened Oct. 22, so interested shoppers will receive an email when it goes on sale.
If you've ever wished the freshly showered smell of Dove's Original Beauty Bar would stick around all day, this is the closest thing to having that scent on demand.
