About the product

We tested the Conair InfinitiPro SmoothWrap Hair Dryer to see how well it worked

Not sure you want to spend hundreds on a premium hair dryer? The Conair InfinitiPro SmoothWrap Hair Dryer is an affordable option that promises to leave hair feeling smoother, healthier and shinier thanks to its advanced plasma technology. But is it possible to get a good-quality product for less than $100?

The BestReviews Testing Lab ventured to find out and put the Conair InfinitiPro SmoothWrap Hair Dryer to the test. Overall, we were impressed by the level of quality for the price and would recommend this product to anyone who isn’t looking to spend a fortune on a hair dryer.

What is the Conair InfinitiPro SmoothWrap Hair Dryer?

Product specifications

Heat Settings: 3 | Wattage: 1,875  | Attachments: 2 | Cold Shot: Yes | Power Source: Corded electric

Since 1959, Conair has been in the business of making hair care appliances to suit every need. Their InfinitiPro SmoothWrap Hair Dryer is a relatively simple and basic model that effectively dries hair — and the price point reflects that. It has three heat settings and two speed settings, which can be adjusted with two switches on the side of the handle. A Cold Shot button on the front of the handle gives a cold blast of air to cool down the strands and lock in your style. It comes with two attachments — a concentrated air nozzle and a diffuser — which easily clicked into place when we tested it.

The product claims to use advanced plasma technology, which can help restore the natural balance of your hair and reduce flyaways without leaving hair flat. When powered on, a blue LED light on the ion port indicates that ions are being released to condition every strand for a shiny, smooth look. This model also uses ceramic technology for a more even distribution of heat to speed up drying time.

Pros

  • Affordably priced: This hair dryer’s biggest pro is its low price. At $55, it’s much cheaper than the majority of hair dryers on the market and does the job of drying hair quickly and efficiently very well.
  • No learning curve: Since there isn’t an overwhelming amount of settings to learn and experiment with, this is a great product for hair-styling beginners or for anyone whose main goal is to get hair dry rather than create a fancy blowout.
  • Lightweight: While it’s not the most compact model on the market, this product is still fairly lightweight at 1.3 pounds, so it’s not particularly tiring to use.
  • Nice color choices: We found the mint and pink color options to be aesthetically pleasing, and we appreciated the choice.

Cons

  • Settings may be too basic for some: This simple hair dryer has only three heat settings and two speed settings, so it may fall short for people who blow-dry their hair often and like a variety. There’s an especially big difference between the high and low speed settings, and it would be preferable to have some options in between.
  • Not compact: In terms of size, this product is bulkier than many of the high-end models on the market. More compact models are easier to store and travel with.
  • Few attachments: With just two attachments, it doesn’t offer as many as you might get with higher-end models. This may not be an issue for someone who does a simple blow-dry, but people looking to create more polished blow-dry styles would benefit from a product with a greater variety of attachments.

Who is it for?

This product is best for people looking to save money on a blow dryer while still getting an effective product. Due to the lack of settings and attachments, it’s best suited for people who simply want to dry their hair. It may fall short for those who want a variety of settings for a full blowout style.

How we tested

We tested this model on a reviewer with fine, thick hair that’s about 22 inches long. To test this product, the hair was washed using shampoo and conditioner. After the wash, the hair was wrapped in a towel for approximately five minutes to absorb the excess water, then towel-dried (using the same towel). For the towel-dry, the hair was flipped upside down to help separate the strands.

We sprayed the hair with a few spritzes of Biolage Styling Smooth Shine Milk, which is a moisturizing product. We combed the product through and parted the hair. We waited about 10 minutes to give the hair a head start on air-drying, which greatly cuts down on blow-drying time to minimize any damage.

Immediately before blow-drying, we sprayed the hair liberally with TRESemmé Heat Tamer Spray to protect the strands from heat damage and combed the product through.

For the blow-dry, we started with a rough-dry using no attachment. For the rough-dry, we used the low-speed setting and the medium-heat setting.

When the hair was about 50% to 60% dry, we attached the concentrated air nozzle and finished blow-drying the hair in sections over a round brush. For this part of the process, we alternated between the high and low heat settings (mainly because the high heat setting was a bit stronger than we prefer for a blowout and the low was a bit weaker than we prefer).

Since the diffuser is made for curly hair, we were unable to test that attachment.

Price and where to buy

The InfinitiPro by Conair costs about $50 to $60, depending on where you buy it from. It can be purchased from Amazon and Ulta Beauty.

How does it compare to other models we tested?

Compared to other high-end models we used, such as the Dyson Supersonic, Shark SpeedStyle and T3 Featherweight StyleMax, this product simply can’t compete. But if affordability is your top priority, this is a decent-quality product that can dry hair quickly.

Performance comparison

While this product has great airflow, it didn’t have as many airflow settings compared to other models we tested. The Dyson Supersonic, Shark SpeedStyle and T3 Featherweight Stylemax all offered three airflow settings, whereas the Conair InfinitiPro Smoothwrap only offers two. This can be an issue if the highest setting is too high for your hair but the lowest setting is generally too low for your styling needs. With three heat settings, the Conair had the same amount as the Dyson but fewer than the Shark (which had four) and the T3 (which had five).

Still, it dried our hair about as quickly and effectively as any other hair dryer we tested.

Attachment comparison

The two attachments click into and off of the front of the blow dryer. Though relatively easy to attach, they were a bit more difficult to remove than other attachments we used that either have a lock feature (like the Shark SpeedStyle) or magnetic attachment (like the Dyson Supersonic). This feels reflective of the low price point.

Design and weight comparison

For a traditional-style hair dryer, this product was relatively lightweight, weighing just 1.3 pounds; that’s a bit less than all the models we tested, including the T3 Featherweight StyleMax, which weighs 1.53 pounds, the Shark SpeedStyle, which weighs 1.6 pounds and the Dyson Supersonic, which weighs 1.8 pounds. However, the barrel and handle are much bulkier than those hair dryers, so it might not be the most space-efficient option for travel. The Conair measures 12.8 inches by 12.8 inches, while the Dyson measures 11.3 by 3.8 inches, the Shark measures 6 by 8 inches and the T3 measures 11.2 by 7.6 inches.

We did, however, like the button placement on the Conair. The sliding buttons helped prevent accidental changes during use. The Cold Shot button was in a good position for ease of use on the front of the handle. We also liked that it came in two colors, mint and pink, and appreciated that there was a choice.

How to use the Conair InfinitiPro Hair Dryer

After plugging in the hair dryer, turn it on by pushing up the lowest switch, which controls the airflow. You can adjust the heat by using the top switch and selecting one of three settings. You may opt to use no attachment (great for rough-drying), the concentrated air nozzle (best for styling and straightening) or the diffuser (best for curly hair). To secure an attachment, click it into place. It can be removed by simply pulling it off. If you want to lock in your style with a cold shot of air, press the button on the front of the handle.

InfinitiPro by Conair review: Should you get one?

This product is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a low-priced hair dryer. While it can’t rival a premium blow dryer in terms of adding smoothness and shine, it still does a fine job and is great for people who value simplicity and just need to get their hair dried quickly. If you’re looking to create a variety of hairstyles using different heat and air settings and attachments, you may want to consider a higher-end blow dryer. If compactness and travel friendliness are important to you, you may also want to consider a different model.

It dried hair quickly and effectively, but its lack of extra settings beyond the basic ones offered doesn’t provide a lot of control for styling.

It takes less than 30 seconds to add an attachment, plug it in, pick a setting and get started.

Appearance: 5

It looks sleek with a glossy exterior and shiny silver accents. It comes in mint or champagne pink.

Overall, we enjoyed using it and found it simple to operate but wished there were more settings.
