Intex

Dura-Beam Deluxe Elevated Air Mattress

Bottom Line

Intex is a well-known brand and this mattress doesn’t sully the good name, based on our tests.

Pros

The top is velvet and our tester found it muffled the sounds and squeaks of sleepers who toss and turn. They also found it inflates fully in just under 5 minutes. It comes in twin, full, and queen sizes.

Cons

It doesn’t have a built-in pillow rest like some other airbeds.

About the product

Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed Single Product Review

Is the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed worth buying?

You always want to have room in your home to invite friends and family to stay in when they visit. But if you have a small apartment or house, you may not have a dedicated guest room with a bed ready for loved ones to use.

If you invest in an air mattress, though, you’ll never have to worry about finding a place for overnight guests to sleep. And when your guests leave, you can just roll the bed up and store it easily in a closet or under furniture. You can even bring an air mattress on camping trips to make it more comfortable to sleep in your tent.

The Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed is a queen-size air mattress with a dual-layer pocket system that contours to the body for improved comfort. It also has a powerful, built-in electric pump that fully inflates the mattress in less than five minutes. The included carry bag makes it easy to store and move around, too.

Testing the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed

Manufacturers make many big claims about their products, but BestReviews uses a team of objective testers to determine how well these items really perform. The Testing Lab consists of both experts with extensive knowledge in a product category and normal consumers who are only concerned with finding products that will make their lives easier.

When trying the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed, the BestReviews Testing Lab focused on how easy it is to set up, its size and durability, how easy it is to store and transport and its overall comfort.

What is the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed?

Air mattresses can get a bad rap for taking a long time to inflate. However, the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed stands out because it has a built-in air pump and can self-inflate in under five minutes. That means you don’t have to struggle with blowing it up when it’s time to sleep.

Air mattresses also have a reputation for losing air while you sleep. The BestReviews Testing Lab found that the mattress sank a bit on the first night of use. However, the instructions mention that the bed will stretch on its first inflation, which may make it seem like it’s losing air. The Testing Lab discovered that the mattress fully settled upon reinflation, and there were no issues on the second night of use. The mattress can support up to 600 pounds and comfortably sleeps two adults. It is also made of very thick plastic and features a smooth, velvety top that’s soft to the touch.

How to use Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed

When trying out the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed, the BestReviews Testing Lab found that the built-in pump makes it extremely easy to inflate for sleeping and deflate when you get up in the morning.

To inflate the mattress, do the following:

  1. Lay it out in a spot where there are no obstructions that might puncture it.
  2. Remove the main cable cover from the pump, and plug it into an outlet.
  3. Carefully turn the control dial on the inflator clockwise until the stop point, and then flip the on/off switch to position 1. You can use the control dial to adjust the amount of air flowing into the mattress. It will take approximately five minutes for the mattress to inflate fully.
  4. Once it reaches your desired firmness, turn the on/off switch to position 0.

When deflating the mattress, turn the control dial counterclockwise until you reach the stop point. Then, flip the on/off switch back to position 1 to release the air. Once the mattress is fully deflated, turn the on/off position back to position 0.

Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed benefits

If you’re considering buying this air mattress, the BestReviews Testing Lab found it incredibly easy to set up because of the built-in pump. But more impressive than how easy it is to inflate is how comfortable it is. It is as firm as many traditional mattresses and taller than other air mattresses, so it feels like you’re sleeping in a real bed. Two adults can also sleep comfortably on the bed, making it perfect for multiple guests.

Testing also revealed that sheets stay on the mattress well because it has a velvet top and ribbed sides that keep them in place. Ultimately, this airbed is the closest you can get to sleeping on an actual mattress while using an inflatable mattress for the BestReviews Testing Lab.

Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed drawbacks

While the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed is a comfortable, well-made air mattress, the Testing Lab found room for improvement. It isn’t ready for use right out of the box because it stretches during its first use, making it feel like it’s losing air. To ensure your guests are comfortable, you should do a test run the night before you set it up for the first time. The Lab also discovered that it is pretty cumbersome to carry and doesn’t fit in a standard backpack, making it challenging to take on camping trips. It doesn’t have a built-in pillow rest like other premium airbeds, either.

Should you get the Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Air Bed?

After putting it through its paces, the BestReviews Testing Lab found that this air mattress is a fantastic model for anyone wanting a roomy, comfortable, supportive airbed. It’s straightforward to set up, making it an excellent choice for those new to air mattresses. The large size also lets couples sleep comfortably on it, while the added height can make it easier for those with mobility issues to get on and off since it’s not as low to the ground as other air mattresses.
