Tackle your summer reading goals with the newest Kindle models

Have thousands of books in your pocket for reading on the go

Lazy summer days are best spent beside the pool under an umbrella with an ice-cold beverage and a book. You could take a few books with you, but that would be impractical as they can get wet and are relatively heavy to carry around. The best solution is to get a Kindle from Amazon, which is waterproof, a convenient size and, best of all, can store thousands of electronic copies of your favorite reading material.

Right now Audible is offering a 3-month free trial of Audible Premium Plus for Amazon Prime members. The sale ends on July 31, but it's not your only chance at free audiobooks. You can get two premium titles for free with a 30-day free trial of Audible Plus and stream hundreds of free audiobooks, podcasts and more using Audible’s free library.

A Kindle for every occasion

The first Kindle from Amazon was launched in 2007, and it quickly became evident that electronic readers were the way to go. While several options were already available then, such as the Rocket eBook, Amazon’s technology made it more affordable and user-friendly for the average book lover.

Over the last 15 years, several Kindle models have emerged, some being upgrades to released versions while others were new devices with enhanced technology and capabilities. A good example is the difference between the standard Kindle and the Paperwhite version. While both e-readers function the same, the Paperwhite has an improved display that accurately simulates the color and readability of a physical paper book.

There are also versions with different storage capacities, display sizes, and overall functions. So, if you’ve ever had your eye on a Kindle, now is one of the best times to get one. They are the perfect summer companion.

Best Kindles for summer reading

Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition

This bundle is the perfect option if you want an all-in-one package from Amazon for reading electronic books. It includes the Kindle Paperwhite with 32 gigabytes of storage and wireless charging, an auto-adjusting front light and a glare-free display of 300 pixels per inch. Our tester found it incredibly lightweight, and the battery lasted several weeks.

Kindle Scribe Essentials Bundle

The Kindle Scribe is an excellent gadget if you enjoy reading and writing. It has a 10.2-inch glare-free display with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch and 64GB of storage. The Essentials Bundle includes a premium pen for making notes, a wall charger and a leather folio cover with a magnetic attachment. During testing, we found it perfect for readers who want a bit of heft behind what they are holding, which makes it heavier than the Paperwhite.

Kindle Paperwhite

The Paperwhite is one of the bestselling Kindles as it has a 6.8-inch display with an adjustable warm light. The latest version lets you turn pages up to 20% faster than previous Paperwhite models, and the battery can last up to 10 weeks. It comes in 16GB and 8GB storage options, which is more than enough for thousands of books.

It has a 7-inch display with 300 pixels per inch and is rated IPX8 waterproof. It has a sturdy grip on the right side of the display, which has large page-turning buttons. Pairing the Oasis with Bluetooth earbuds lets you listen to audiobooks, too.
