Our resident mixologist (and videographer) invented this comforting cocktail, which is perfect whether you are reading fireside or entertaining guests. It’s easy to customize to your tastes. Cheers!
You will need (for 2 cocktails):
2 whiskey glasses
1 shot glass
Whisk (to stir the syrup)
2 cinnamon sticks
½ cup maple syrup
1 orange wedge
Granulated sugar sprinkled with a little cinnamon (¼” high in a small plate for rimming glasses)
3 fresh mint sprigs
1 bottle of bourbon
1.5 ounces lemon juice
1 inch fresh ginger root (peeled)
Whole cloves (optional)
Orange peel (optional garnish)
2 candy canes (optional garnish)
Make the syrup: add two cinnamon sticks and 1/2 cup of maple syrup to a saucepan (you can add a few cloves, too). Simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Then, remove from heat and let it settle at room temperature. Put in separate container.
Prepare whiskey glasses by rimming the edges with an orange wedge (don’t put it in the drink!) and placing a cinnamon sugar rim around the cocktail.
Muddle mint sprigs in the bottom of an empty cocktail shaker, then fill the shaker with ice.
Add to the cocktail shaker: 1 shot of the cinnamon maple syrup, 2 1/2 shots of bourbon, 1 shot lemon juice. Grate a few sweeps of fresh fresh ginger over the top.
Close and shake vigorously, then pour into glasses.
Serve neat or over ice. Garnish with orange peel or candy cane.
