The Theragun Elite is a marvelous wellness tool. This personal massager can be used to treat a broad scope of muscle ailments, from tight hip flexors and aching shoulder blades to plantar fasciitis and lower back pain. It can even help reduce stress.
The Theragun Elite is a high-end percussive massage gun that can be customized to your specific needs to help treat a wide variety of sore muscle issues and promote muscle recovery.
You can get some of the same benefits you’d get from a foam roller or even a visit to a physical therapist without leaving home, and the massage gun is designed for almost the full body. (We cover the exceptions in this article.)
Of course, a massager is no substitute for the care of a physical therapist or professional doctor, but it certainly can help you feel better.
Pros: With its ergonomic grip, customizable speed range, long battery life, and smart functionality, this is one of the best personal deep tissue massagers on the market. It is quiet, powerful, and effective.
Cons: While the app experience may be buggy at times, and improper use may result in mild abrasions, the biggest drawback is the high price. However, if it fits your budget, it is worth it.
Who is it for? People who suffer muscle pain, soreness, or stiffness can benefit from this machine. It doesn't matter if you are an athlete or a worker who sits at a desk eight hours a day: this smart percussive therapy device can help.
What does it do? It uses percussive motion at a range of speeds. A variety of massage heads deliver deep tissue massage to stimulate blood flow, reduce pain, and increase range of motion.
How much does it cost? $399.
It weighs 2.2 pounds and is 9.5 by 6.7 by 2.8 inches.
The patented triangular multi-grip handle allows you to hold it a number of ways. This ensures comfort regardless of which body part you are working on.
The motor delivers up to 40 pounds of no-stall force (the amount of force that can be applied before a massage machine stalls) while dampening sound. As Theragun's quietest percussive therapy device, the noise level is comparable to that of an electric toothbrush.
The Theragun has five built-in massage speeds: 1,750 percussions per minute (ppms); 1,900 ppms; 2,100 ppms; 2,200 ppms; and 2,400 ppms. However, if you use the Therabody App, you can customize your device to any speed between 1,750 and 2,400 percussions per minute.
The screen is on the back of the unit. It gives you complete control over the device and allows you to monitor speed and responsive force.
Five attachments are included: the standard ball, dampener attachment, wedge, thumb, and cone attachment.
Standard ball: This multipurpose attachment is suitable for both small and large muscle groups.
Dampener: If you need to work on tender or bony areas, the dampener attachment is the part for you. It can also be used on a wide range of muscle groups.
Wedge: This attachment is ideal for the shoulder blades and IT bands (ligaments that run on the outside of your legs). The wide wedge shape helps increase blood flow and reduce tension.
Thumb: If you need to hit trigger points, this smaller attachment is ideal.
Cone: The cone attachment goes one step beyond the thumb attachment in targeting specific areas. It is best for treating hands and feet.
Using the Therabody App (available on the App Store or Google Play), you can pair your smart device with your Theragun Elite via Bluetooth connectivity. The app allows you to remotely adjust speed, engage treatment presets, and make real-time recommendations.
The presets consist of a combination of speed, time, and force to provide the user with a specific wellness routine. Every change the app makes is viewable on the unit's OLED screen.
The included 12-volt lithium-ion battery can run for two hours under optimum conditions. It takes 80 minutes to charge with the included power adapter.
If you'd like to purchase the wireless charger accessory, the device is enabled for wireless charging.
This percussive therapy device comes with a high-quality zippered hard carrying case. The carrying case has a secure handle that comfortably fits the unit. It has pockets for the charger, attachments, and owner's manual.
There is a 1-year warranty on the device and charger; note that this is a limited warranty. The warranty on attachments is only 30 days.

Dr. Jason Wersland created Theragun Percussive Therapy after suffering a traumatic motorcycle accident. He was experiencing debilitating pain and couldn't find anything on the market that helped, so he created a deep tissue massage tool and used it on himself to improve his own wellness.
Several years later, when a desperate patient was experiencing chronic pain, Dr. Wersland found his invention was effective on his patient as well. This success prompted the doctor to spend years refining the design and building numerous prototypes.
In 2016, the Theragun G1 was released to the world. Theragun's mission statement is, "We believe everybody deserves to feel better and live life on their own terms."

If you ever misplace the documentation that comes with your Theragun Elite, don't worry: the company has all the information you need online.
Navigate to the Elite page on the company's website and scroll to the bottom. Here, you will find the essentials regarding product operation and how to use the app and your smart percussive therapy device. There is even a section outlining how to charge the battery.
Upon opening the box of your new Theragun Elite, you will discover a storage case. Remove the case from the packaging and unzip it.
While there is more than one way to turn it on, we will focus on the simplest method. Before using your Theragun Elite for the first time, however, it is best to fully charge it.
1. The Theragun Elite arrives fully assembled. Remove any protective
2. Plug the power adapter into the charging port. Plug the
power adapter into a wall outlet.
3. The screen on the back of the massage device will begin
blinking. When charging is complete, you will see a full battery icon
4. Unplug the power adapter from the wall. Then, unplug the power
adapter from the Elite's charging port. Do not use it
while plugged in.
1. Locate the small circular button on the back of the unit (directly
above the massage head). Press and hold for two seconds.

3. When finished, firmly press and hold the button until the unit shuts
The Theragun Elite uses a combination of force, speed, and depth to increase circulation, release tension, and relieve pain. It can be used on nearly every surface of your body. However, you should never use it on your head, neck, or near your genitalia, as you could injure yourself.
Following are a few of the areas where this handy pain reliever can help.
Below are some of the conditions you can treat with your massage device.
While the Theragun Elite is an excellent tool to help get you back to feeling your best, there are a few issues to be aware of. These are not deal-breakers, but they should be noted before purchasing.
You must be vigilant to always keep the massage head perpendicular to the area you are massaging. Failure to do so could change the percussive motion to a rubbing motion (allowing the massage head to slide along the body instead of pulsing into it). This could result in skin abrasions.
Due to friction, the metal piston that moves back and forth (driving the massage head) heats up. This is normal and expected. It is considered safe because the piston does not come into contact with your body. However, you must be careful not to touch that piston after using your Theragun Elite because it will be extremely hot.
This goes not just for the Theragun Elite but for all percussive massage guns. Some people should not use this machine. It is not designed for children, expectant mothers, or anyone who believes they may be pregnant. It is not for anyone with a bleeding disorder, anyone who bruises easily, or anyone with a nerve disorder.
Individuals who recently had surgery should not use this device, nor should anyone with skin disorders or open sores.
Lastly, if an individual has reduced physical, sensory, or reasoning capabilities, self-administered percussive therapy is not an option.
Your purchase comes with everything you need to start working your way toward a pain-free life. However, there are a few optional accessories you might find desirable.
