Keep your dog safe from the summer heat with these 5 products

Last Updated July 2020

Your dog is a part of your family, so be sure he/she is kept cool this summer.

Just like you, Fido can get sunburned, hot, and generally annoyed when temps reach the higher digits.

Luckily, there are some easy ways to keep your dog cool without a lot of effort, and with some great products.

Try a cooling pad

To keep your pet cool, we love The Green Pet Shop’s dog cooling pad that offers your friend a little slice of heaven when he naps or relaxes. For small dogs, there is the adorable Little Dove’s cooling mat that is in the shape of a doughnut.

Spray them down

Even if your fur baby doesn’t like to get wet and hides when it’s bath time, he/she might enjoy a cool bath on a hot summer day. The SmarterFresh Pet Shower Sprayer Set can cool your pooch down fast thanks to its 10-minute attachment that hooks to your existing shower pipe. The hand shower has three water-flow settings and an easy-glide lever to control the water pressure.

Protect those paws

Of course, your dog’s pads can burn fast when walking on hot pavement, driveways and parking areas, so be sure he/she is protected. Qumy dog boots are a good solution for keeping your canine’s paws off the heat and protected from getting burned. Be aware, many dogs don’t like these and results will vary.

Keep them hydrated

Just like humans, animals need to stay hydrated when the heat climbs. An easy way to keep them from getting dehydrated is by giving them water often. Try the compact and portable, inflatable IDEgg collapsible silicone pet bowls that you can carry in a purse, backpack, or in your car. Pull them out when your dog looks like he’s in need of a cool refresher any time, any place.

Dogs love ice

When you’re sitting by the pool and your dog wants to be outside with you, offer him a bowlful of cold ice chips or ice cubes that you made at home with the Avalon Bay portable ice maker. Makes cubes fast – between 6 and 7 minutes; you can buy enjoy!

For the water-loving dog ...

Speaking of pools, some dogs love to go for a dip so why not let them enjoy some fun time in a kiddie pool in your yard under your supervision. One we like is the Intex Inflatable Swim Center Family Lounge Pool, that’s the perfect addition to any backyard.
