It has been said that most pet foods are designed for the owner, not the animal. If pet food companies actually used ingredients dogs prefer, owners may not want to handle it. The inclusion of raw food in a dog's diet is one example of this phenomenon. Dogs instinctively prefer raw meats and unprocessed vegetables, but many commercial dog foods use processed grains and meat-flavored fillers instead. A number of dog owners now seek out higher end foods that include raw meats such as turkey, beef, lamb, and pork. Instead of grains and corn, these raw dog food blends also contain minimally processed vegetables and a natural stock. The addition of raw food to a dog's regular diet is believed to have some health benefits. Many dogs with digestive issues do respond well to diets higher in raw food content.
