Olympic bumper plates help protect the area around your weightlifting station. Made of extremely durable rubber, these items look like metal weightlifting plates, but they’re not. With an Olympic bumper plate, you can safely drop a loaded weightlifting bar – the rubber in the bumper plate will strike the ground first, preventing damage from heavy bars. Olympic bumper plates can fit on Olympic-sized weightlifting bars, and though they’re made of rubber, you’ll find them in many different weights. As you shop, bear in mind that some Olympic bumper plates have a steel interior that has been coated with rubber or urethane. These products don’t provide quite the same level of protection as all-rubber bumper plates, but they’re safer and quieter than cast iron plates.
