Medium breed dog food is made for dogs 25 to 60 pounds. Medium breed dogs have specific nutritional needs that may not be met by small breed dog foods. The metabolism for medium-sized breeds is more like larger dogs than small dogs. This means the medium breed food formulas are more like larger breed food formulas. Protein is an important ingredient for medium-sized dogs. They’re typically active, so they need lean muscle mass for exercise. Manufacturers don't typically specify a brand of food as made for medium breed dogs. This specification is more common with large breed and small breed dogs. Both canned and dry foods are available for medium sized dogs.
