Isopropyl alcohol with approximately 99-plus percent rating is great for many home and industrial cleaning purposes. Because it is the purest form of the chemical, it evaporates quickly. This characteristic makes it suitable for cleaning items that can be damaged by moisture, such as some electronics and computer components. It's also safe for cleaning plastic, glass, and metal, as it's non-corrosive and resists streaking. However, this potent alcohol isn't ideal for use on the skin, as it can be irritating. Additionally, although strong, it's not as effective as an antiseptic as diluted 70 percent rubbing alcohol, which has a water content that actually aids the solvent's processes of killing germs, viruses, and bacteria.
