When you’ve baked a perfect cake, the last thing you want is to risk breaking or misshaping it when you transfer it from the pan to a cake platter. What you need is a cake lifter. This useful utensil makes it possible to transfer delicate cakes and other foods such as like cookies or tarts, without risking disaster. Like giant spatulas, cake lifters come in widths from about 8” to about 12”, so choose a lifter that will accommodate the largest size you are likely to bake. The best cake lifters are sturdy enough to hold heavier cakes like cheesecakes, but still light enough to feel comfortable. A thin blade edge will slide under a cake most easily.
