Top Korean beauty brand belif has an unusual inspiration. They take their cue from a 19th-century Scottish doctor, Dr. Duncan Napier, who turned to medicinal herbs to cure his chronic cough. Using the same principles, belif's apothecary-based skincare uses healing herbs, like comfrey, yarrow, and lady’s mantle, which have been used since medieval times. The packaging is deliberately clinical rather than fancy. The brand stresses a “truthful” skin care approach, and certainly their winning formulas of ultra-hydrating creams and gels have brought them legions of followers and U.S. beauty awards. Users say a little goes a long way and that, overall, the products live up to their promises.
