    Considerations

    Considerations

    Type

Parents and caretakers today can choose from a wide selection of strollers. Popular types include jogging, travel, umbrella, and standard strollers. Some strollers combine types, such as the jogging/travel stroller or the standard/sport stroller. Some strollers are part of a travel system that includes an infant car seat.

    Considerations

    Maneuverability and Portability

Maneuverability and portability are important considerations when selecting a stroller. A swiveling front wheel may be ideal for some consumers, while others prefer a stroller that folds without fuss.

    Considerations

    Features

Strollers offer different features to satisfy different needs. Popular stroller features include a padded/adjustable reclining seat, a car seat adapter, and "accessory adapters" such as snack trays. Some strollers come with an enhanced suspension system for the smoothest possible ride.

    Considerations

    Price

Although strollers can be quite pricey, most fall within the $100-$300 range. State-of-the-art components drive up the cost, while basic strollers generally occupy the lower end of the price range. Consumers should note that cheap strollers don't usually offer as many features as their expensive counterparts.

    Type

    UPPAbaby VISTA Jake Stroller

The UPPAbaby 2015 Vista stroller offers one of the most comprehensive and flexible packages around. There's a tremendous variety of options in terms of both seat positions and the directions your child (or children) can face. Notably, the ride-along board for a third toddler costs extra, and several owners have suggested that it's best for two children rather than three.

While not a sports stroller, many of the owners we surveyed say they're just as happy with the UPPAbaby in rural situations as they are on a paved street.

    Type

    BOB Revolution Flex Stroller

The BOB Revolution Flex Stroller is an ideal fit for physically active parents who want to take their child along for a jog, walk, or neighborhood stroll. Its three-wheel design provides a smooth, stable ride courtesy of its built-in shock absorbers. An adjustable canopy protects the passenger from excessive sun exposure, and a nine-position handle allows the parent to find a comfortable height for pushing.

One appealing feature of the BOB Revolution Flex is an integrated car seat system which allows parents to attach the stroller to a secure bar during car travel and quickly detach it for regular stroller use.

    EXPERT TIP

Check for compatibility between your stroller and car seat. Many models work together even if bought separately. You could also consider an all-in-one travel system or an infant car seat carrier – both make traveling with a baby much simpler.

    Type

    Graco Roomfor2 Gotham Stroller

Graco's Roomfor2 might seem like a fairly basic double stroller, but there are plenty of common sense features built in that will suit parents on a budget. It's lightweight, folds easily with one hand, and is compact enough to fit in the trunk of most small cars. It's also compatible with Graco's Classic Connect and Click Connect infant car seats, giving it added versatility. For many owners, it provides a simple, effective way to get an infant and toddler around town.

    Type

    Britax 2017 B-Agile Stroller

The Britax B-Agile and B-Safe Travel System is a stroller/infant car seat package that caters to families who travel frequently. Many satisfied users told us they would recommend this product to a friend because it is lightweight, compact, and easy to assemble. However, a few mentioned that the stroller can be cumbersome and awkward, especially when trying to get it into or out of a smaller vehicle.

    Type

    Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller

The Kolcraft Cloud Plus definitely falls into the travel-friendly category, weighing less than 12 pounds and featuring a one-hand unfolding mechanism. With its front-end suspension system, it's also suitable for exercise and off-road use. A total of six wheels (four front, two back) provide even more stability.

The Kolcraft protects its passenger from damaging sunlight via a three-layer canopy with a peek-a-boo window. Our main concern is the lack of padding in certain areas, but this is a minor issue among most owners.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The wider the tires on your stroller, the better it will be on rough surfaces. If you live in a rural area, look for a stroller with big tires.

    Maneuverability and Portability

    Maneuverability and Portability

    UPPAbaby VISTA Jake Stroller

Although the UPPAbaby is neither light nor small, the quality of its components—nice big wheels, all-around suspension— make it easy to maneuver. The foam-filled rubber tires offer a more comfortable ride than solid tires without any danger of a flat. Parents of almost all heights enjoy the adjustable telescoping handlebars. And, once folded, the UPPAbaby stays upright for easy lifting.

    Maneuverability and Portability

    BOB Revolution Flex Stroller

The BOB Revolution Flex provides maximum maneuverability through the use of a single front tire configuration. Two-state shock absorption technology also helps maintain stability and comfort during jogs, runs, and off-road use.

The manufacturer recommends a minimum passenger age of eight weeks without a car seat adapter and eight months before using it for off-road activities/exercise. Folding the stroller is a two-step process which may take two hands and a bit of muscle to accomplish.

If you live in a hot area and your baby gets fussy when warm, attach a battery operated fan to the stroller to cool them down for cheap.

    Maneuverability and Portability

    Graco Roomfor2 Gotham Stroller

Given that it will hold two children of up to 50 pounds, it's perhaps surprising to hear so many owners say how easy the Graco Roomfor2 is to maneuver. The wheels are a little smaller than those of some competitors, which makes it more suitable for town than uneven terrain. However, the front wheels have some suspension and can be locked for greater straight-line stability. Folding is a one-handed task and, once folded, a lock keeps the unit safely closed.

    Maneuverability and Portability

    Britax 2017 B-Agile Stroller

The Britax works best for children from birth to 55 pounds. Highlights include a single-hand, quick-fold design and a lightweight, easy-to-use travel system. The car seat features push button LATCH connectors and a built-in handle for easy transportation and installation. Many users we surveyed told us that this system travels well and folds/unfolds easily for convenient storage and portability. A few owners mentioned that the swivel wheel can get sticky, turning to the side when the pusher is trying to walk a straight line. Some owners also complained that this system takes up too much room in smaller cars.

    Maneuverability and Portability

    Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller

The slender Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller weighs just 11 pounds and features a lightweight construction. Front swivel wheels and 4.5-inch rear wheels provide solid stability and maneuverability. Owners told us that this stroller folds and opens easily. A handful of owners mentioned that although this stroller can weather basic outings and terrains, it is too unstable on uneven sidewalks, gravel paths, and other rough surfaces.

    EXPERT TIP

Use plastic links to hang colorful toys on the stroller bumper bar. The toys keep baby entertained and help develop visual, cognitive, and motor skills.

    Features

    Features

    UPPAbaby VISTA Jake Stroller

A lot of thought has gone into making the UPPAbaby as flexible as possible. The full-size seat can face forward or backward and offers several reclining positions. There's an included bassinet (with breathable pad and removable liner) that transforms the stroller into a baby carriage. A “rumbleseat” is an available add-on seating option, but it costs extra.

The extendable sunshade offers SPF50 protection. Rain and bug shields are also included. The frame will accept the company's own MESA infant car seat, or—given the right adapters—those from Chicco and Maxi-Cosi. Finally, there's a big storage tray that can hold up to 30 pounds.

    Features

    BOB Revolution Flex Stroller

The BOB Revolution Flex comes packed with features not often found on other strollers of its kind. The piston-driven shock absorption system takes the shake, rattle, and roll out of trips on the jogging trail. A forward-locking front wheel also helps maintain stability on unbalanced terrain.

An optional metal bar attachment can be used to secure the stroller seat to a matching car restraint system or to support a snack tray. The nine-position handlebar provides flexibility for all members of the family who may need to push the stroller at some point.

    FOR YOUR SAFETY

As is the case with most baby gear, be wary of purchasing secondhand products if you don’t know their history. While it can save you money, it isn’t always safe.

    Features

    Graco Roomfor2 Gotham Stroller

While it's fair to look at the Graco Roomfor2 as a budget twin stroller, that doesn't mean it's completely basic. There's a reclining seat for an infant that offers plenty of positions and a choice of a padded bench seat or standing platform for a toddler. (Both seat and bench have safety harnesses.) Owners do tell us that the age of your toddler affects how well this combination works, as there’s no option for the older child to lie down.

In addition to a spacious under-seat storage basket and convenient tray with two cup holders near the top of the handle, there is a canopy, but it's small and "pretty much useless,” according to a fair number of owners.

    Features

    Britax 2017 B-Agile Stroller

The Britax Stroller features an adjustable, "no re-thread," five-point harness infant car seat and a head pad with reflective binding. Side Impact Protection distributes crash forces, shields baby from vehicle intrusion, and contains the head and body. The system's padded, supportive seat makes the ride more comfortable. An extra-large canopy with a mesh ventilation window allows parent and baby to easily see each other.

Several owners told us they wish this stroller came with more storage options for phones, keys, and other items. A small number of customers we surveyed also mentioned that this stroller often "rolls away" if you don't apply the brakes hard enough.

    Features

    Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller

The Kolcraft Cloud Plus’ lightweight travel design doesn’t mean it’s a flimsy cousin to the other strollers on our shortlist. Two sets of matching wheels on the front allow you to push the stroller in any direction, even on unstable ground. The back wheels are in a fixed position, but the maneuverability is still similar to that of shopping cart. We do wish the tires were composed of rubber instead of plastic, as this might improve traction and durability.

The one-hand opening/closing mechanism definitely enhances this travel stroller’s portability, as does its 12-pound weight. However, we do note that the mechanism has been known to spring open unexpectedly at times, so safe storage is a definite consideration.

    EXPERT TIP

Before buying a stroller, take into account everything you hope it will carry beyond your child. Some strollers offer much more storage space than others.

    UPPAbaby VISTA Jake Stroller

There's no doubt the UPPAbaby is a superbly designed, high-quality stroller. The drawback is that it will cost you $781  for the basic model, and neat features like rumble seat and ride-along board would cost you extra. The bassinet is included, and for those who demand the best in comfort and style, this stroller offers everything needed for the first child — with the option to expand as the family grows. Our research turned up one or two reports of frame failure, but these seem to be isolated incidents.

    Price

    BOB Revolution Flex Stroller

The BOB Revolution Flex Stroller’s $449 price is notably high, but  satisfied users tell us they're happy to make the investment because of its numerous additional features. As part of an integrated car restraint system (components sold separately), the Revolution Flex’s seat can be quickly locked into an approved infant car seat with a support bar, then released just as quickly upon arrival. The stroller’s shock absorption system is not easily found on low-end models and is a worthwhile feature for active families to have.

Virtually every exposed part of the Revolution Flex has some form of padding, a safety feature that reduces the threat of injury for both parent and passenger. This is a high-end stroller designed to give years of service.

If you use your stroller a lot, look for foam-filled tires. These tend to be the most durable and most comfortable for your child.

    Price

    Graco Roomfor2 Gotham Stroller

At just $95, the Graco Roomfor2 gives you a lot for your money. In fact, the price includes many things other manufacturers would expect you to pay extra for.

It arrives unassembled, but putting the Roomfor2 together is a simple job that can be done without tools in 20-30 minutes. Once assembled, it has the potential to carry both an infant and a toddler. It's certainly robust enough for the job—complaints about durability are negligible—but it could perhaps be better designed. Owners report several minor complaints: there could be more space between the bench and the recliner, and the canopy can be a bit of a nuisance. These aren’t serious concerns, but they are an indication that you get what you pay for.

    Price

    Britax 2017 B-Agile Stroller

The Britax B-Agile Travel System's price tag is fairly high at $419. The stroller suits children from birth to 55 pounds. Highlights include a one-hand, quick-fold design and numerous safety features, including a five-point harness with a head pad and reflective binding.

Owners love this product's easy steering and excellent maneuverability, but some find it difficult to load and unload from a smaller vehicle. This problem is due to the Britax's extra bulk.

    Price

    Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller

The Kolcraft Cloud Plus is designed to be a travel model, and its lower retail price of $75 confirms this. However, the fact that it's portable doesn’t mean it lacks features or creature comforts. Many owners tell us that the convenience of the Kolcraft's one-hand opening/folding mechanism alone makes it worth the price.

We suggest investing in a Kolcraft Cloud Plus stroller as a convenient spare for vacations and quick trips where a full-size stroller isn’t strictly required. Durability may become an issue if a travel stroller like the Kolcraft Cloud Plus performs full-time duty, but it’s a reliable piece of equipment for casual walks to the park or around the block.

Test all the main features of a stroller before buying, such as the brakes, the maneuverability, the adjustable handlebars, and the canopy.
    UPPAbaby VISTA Jake Stroller

    BEST OF THE BEST

Despite its hefty price tag, the UPPAbaby stroller earns our Best of the Best designation. A price of $781 will understandably cause concern among budget-minded consumers. However, the owners we surveyed told us that this high-quality, durable stroller is worth the extra expense.

The UPPAbaby offers a number of features designed to make life easier for both baby and parent. It's not specifically a jogging stroller, but its large, foam-filled wheels and suspension give a superb ride over all kinds of terrain. Though it does require 'extras' to cope with a growing family, each additional piece contributes to a coherent whole, and the ergonomics are excellent. Owners are delighted with the included bassinet and first-class sun, bug, and rain protection. If required, the frame can hold two MESA infant car seats.

It's a premium product, but it could be argued that more thought has gone into it than its rivals. As a result, you won't find a stroller that does a better all-around job than the UPPAbaby. It’s the best stroller money can buy.

UPPAbaby offers one of the most comprehensive and flexible stroller packages money can buy.

    Graco Roomfor2 Gotham Stroller

    BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

The Graco Roomfor2 stroller is our choice for "Best Bang for Your Buck." Not only is it one of the most affordable strollers on our list, it also has arguably the most comprehensive range of features. It's certainly on par with many strollers that cost a lot more.

It's comparatively light, and it folds with one hand. It's compact enough to fit easily into the trunk of a small car. It can accommodate an infant in a variety of sitting or reclining positions as well as a toddler on the padded bench or foot board. The storage tray is great, and it even has cup holders! Several buyers confessed that they were blown away by the quality and durability of this product, especially considering its low price.

A few customers have complained that this stroller lacks the durability of some pricier models. Furthermore, they say that the seating positions and storage basket access could be better. But they also told us how easy it is to push and navigate the Roomfor2.

All in all, it's a great all-rounder at a very affordable price, and we have no hesitation in recommending the Graco Roomfor2 stroller as the best budget-priced stroller available.
